Objective To probe the possibility for apply TCD to check the potential ability of cerebrovascular dilatation in patients with hypertension as well as cerebral infarction. Methods Sixty cases of hypertension as well as cerebral infarction were mensurated by TCD for their cerebrovascular reactivity to CO2 by hold one's breath. Results The cerebrovascular reactivity to CO2 in cases with hypertension were lower than normal control( P 〈 0.01 ). In cases with cerebral infarction, the reactivity of sick side was lower than non - sick side{ P 〈 0.05)as well as the hypertension {without cerebral infarction ) group{ P 〈 0.05). But there was no significant between nonsick side of cerebral infarction group and the hypertension ( without cerebral infarction ) group ( P 〉 0.05 ). Concision The cerebrovaseular reactivity to CO2 was lower in patients with hypertension especially in sick side of cerebral infarction group . This revealed that the potential ability of cerebrovascular dilatation with hypertension as well as cerebral infarction was impaired and shown that TCD is a reliable, economic and yeasily to be learned method to check the potential ability of cerebrovascular dilatation in patients with hypertension as well as cerebral infarction
