P<0.01。I through Ⅳ degree of freezing injury were each induced on hind feet of 4 groups of rabbits respectively. The activities of SOD, CAT, and GSH-P X and the content of MDA in blood were determined before(control) and at 12, 24, 48, and 72 h after frostbite to observe the effects on antioxidative system.(1) It was found that 12 h after frostbite, the above mentioned parameters were increased well above the controls,P<0.01.(2) For the mild and moderate groups(I and II degree of cold injury) the changes were less pronounced as in the severely injured groups (III and Ⅳ degree). Recovery took place at 24 h.(3) While in severely injured groups, the activity of SOD reached its peak at 24 h and since 48 h it declined to the level lower than that of control,P<0.05. The activities of CAT and GSH-P X at 24 h showed somewhat decrease but still remained high enough than controls,P<0.01. In Ⅳ degree group the activities of these two enzymes were lower than the control values at 72 h (P<0.05)and plasma content of MDA continuosely maintained at significantly high level after frostbite(P<0.01 vs. control). These results suggested the magnitude and time course of the changes of antioxidative systems in rabbit after frostbite were closely related to the degree of injury.
