摘　　要：It is a long, tiresome trip between Shanghai and Tuebingen, anexhausting flight that is often delayed, followed by hours in a train or car. On my way to Tuegingenfor the funeral of Prof. Dr. Uli Schwarz last December, I thought about how many times over thepast 20 years he had taken such a long journey, probably up to 100 times. It is not at all easy.Prof. Uli Schwarz (1934-2006), director of the CAS Shanghai Institute for Advanced Studies, had devoted himself to S&T cooperation and exchanges between China and Germany.
