K indices is divided into 10 classes by 0,1,…,9.It shows simply, directly and clearly the disturbed degree of geomagnetic field due to particle radiation from the sun.The measurement of K indices is an important task in normal operation of geomagnetic observatory. The correct distinguish between K variation and no K variation is a basic requirement and key thing.Regular variation S R is applied in distinguish between K variation and no K variation instead of “iron” curve in geomagnetic observatory in China since 1989.The method agrees with international current method henceforth. The paper points that the general measuring level of K indices in geomagnetic observatory of China is improved step by step and year by year, but there is some difference between observatories. In quiet and quasi quiet days while S R should be distinguished carefully, the evaluation of S R is greater and K indices tend to be lower in some observatories, the evaluation of S R is smaller and K indices tend to be higher in other some observatories, and the evaluation S R is not stable in some observatories. Therefore correct distinguish of S R is still very important and we must pay attention to it in our observatories hereafter.
