Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the body - surface - displacement of cervical extension muscles and to reveal the pathological mechanism of cervical spondylopathy (CS). Methods : The CS patients were tested the body - surface - displacement parameter of cervical spine in different head - neck flexion and extension degree with biomechanical transducer technique. Results : ( 1 ) The body - surface - displacement of cervical spine increasedobviously with the increasing of flexion degree. Collated to 10° extension, the difference of mean displacement is 0. 018mm during 10° flexion and 1. 952mm during 30° flexion( P 〈 0.05). And its change trend is reduced with age advanced. (2) The flexibility coefficient of cervical extension muscles is decreased as the age advanced, but increased with the flexion degree augmented. Conclusion: The body - surface- displacement of cervical spine is the characteristic representation of CS. In clinic work, healthcare providers should regulate the parameter in cureing CS. A improvement in mechanical characteristics of cervical extension muscles is one of the significant foundation for good effect in treating CS with Tuina therapy.
