摘　　要：大学作为社会中的一个开放性组织,与社会具有密切的联系,在社会发展方面发挥着举足轻重的作用。本文深入研究了美国约翰.霍普金斯大学(The Johns Hopkins U-niversity)的发展及其社会服务的实践经验,期望为我国高等教育立足地方、服务经济和社会建设提供借鉴。University is an opening organization which has a close relationship with society; the role of university in serving social development is increasing remarkably. The paper proceeded to study the impact of the Johns Hopkins University in the local social and economic development of Maryland. This analysis could give us some useful revelation about how the higher educations serve local economic and the development of the society basing on the locality.
