The dynamic changes of endogenous hormones and flavonoids in Catharanthus roseus were studied by ELISA method as plants change from vegetative to reproductive stages, aiming to discuss the relationships between endogenous hormones and flavonoids and flower bud differentiation. During the process of the first flower bud differentiation, the contents of indolylacetic acid(IAA), gibberellin( GA3 ) and zeatin(ZR) in the leaves of C. roseus decreased evidently but abscisic acid (ABA) increased, which indicate that the first flower bud differentiation is closely related to ABA, GA3, ZR and IAA. Moreover, ABA/ZR, GA3/ZR, IAA/ZR, ABB/IAA and ABA/GA3 in leaves obviously increased at the first flower bud differentiation stage, and peaked when flower bud differentiation was basically completed, and then decreased significantly, which shows the balanc.e among different endogenous hormones. The contents of flavonoids in the leaves decreased evidently at the first flower bud differentiation stage, implying that part flavonoids in the leaves were transplanted and consumed at the first flower bud differentiation stage. Flavonoids play an important role in regulating and controlling the change process from vegetative growth to reproductive growth for C. roseus.
