摘　　要：布莱恩·麦克黑尔与兰德尔·史蒂文森共同主编、爱丁堡大学出版社2006年出版的《爱丁堡二十世纪英语文学指南》是一部对整个20世纪英国、美国、爱尔兰、加拿大、澳大利亚、印度、南非、加勒比海地区等众多国家和地区以英语为媒介进行创作的作家及其作品进行梳理和评述的20世纪英语文学史新力作。其显著特色主要表现在:编著者阵容强大;篇、章标题别具一格,令人耳目一新;文学背景与作家、作品浑然一体;信息量大、内容新、观点新。它是一部对20世纪英语文学研究非常有指导价值的学术著作。The Edinburgh Companion to Twentieth-Century Literatures in English, edited by Brian McHale and Randall Stevenson and published by Edinburgh University Press in 2006, is a book devoted to the study of the 20th century writers with English as their writing-medium in such countries as England, America, Ireland, Canada, Australia, India, South Africa, and those in the region of the Caribbean Sea. It is a new masterpiece in the history of the 20th century literature of English, integrating academic worth in its content with originality in its form. Its marked features mainly include its strong lineup of authors and editors, its distinctiveness of chapter-titles and part-titles, its integrated mass of literary background and writers as well as their works, its informativeness and newness in content, and its originality in ideas. It is an instructive book for the study of the 20th century English literature.
