Objective To investigate the incidence of intestinal infectious diseases in a certain unit during 1992-2008 and provide evidence for making out effective measures for the prevention and control of intestinal infectious diseases. Methods The epidemic data of infectious disease of the unit during 1992-2008 were collected and analyzed by the Military Disease Monitoring Software (2002), Excel (2003) and Stata (9.0) to investigate population and time distribution of intestinal infectious diseases in the unit. Results The total incidence rate of intestinal infectious diseases during 1992-2008 was 34.75%o, of which males accounted for 89.56% and females 10.44%; cadres accounted for 60.69%, soldiers 37.31%, and the others 2.00%. There was the highest incidence rate in 1996 and the lowest one in 2003. During the 17 years, intestinal infectious diseases occurred more frequently during May and October, and less frequently in the other months. Conclusions There is a fluctuating decrease in the incidence rate of intestinal infectious diseases with a higher incidence in summer and autumn in the unit during the whole 17 years. Therefore, efforts should be made to strengthen the prevention and control of intestinal infectious diseases in summer and autumn.
