Early Modern Drama: A Difficult Process from Propaganda to Commercial——New Research on Ren Tianzhi's Performing Activities in 1911 and 1912

摘　　要：辛亥革命前夕,进化团在长江流域演出新剧宣传革命;民国元年,天知派经历了新新舞台之败后与新剧界初步联合起来。早期话剧从临时地、义务地为宣传、教育而演剧转变为营业性演剧,需要迎接商业化的挑战和自我发展的考验。任天知的演剧活动典型地体现了这一阶段性特点。On the eve of Revolution of 1911, the Evolution Troupe performed the new play at the Yangtze valley to propagandize the revolution. After the failure at Xinxin Theater in 1912, Tianzhi Faction initially joined up with the new play circle. The transformation of early modern drama from temporary and benefit performance for propaganda and education to commercial performance should meet the challenge of commercialization and self-development. Ren Tianzhi＇ s performing activities embody the typical characteristics of the stage.
