Objective Indentation test is a useful method to study biomechanical property of bone. In this study, the spongy bone of SD rats under progressively increasing load train-ing was tested. Method 100 healthy SD rats of 3 months old were used as samples after adaptive exercise for one week, and they were divided to 5 control groups and 5 exercise groups according to 8W,9W,11W, 13W and 15W cycle of training. The rats in exercise groups were under progressively increasing load training. The biomeehanieal property of the 1st lumbar vertebrae (L1) was tested by indentation test. Results (1) To the 9W exercise group, the maximal elastic force (F) of spongy bone was less than control group, remarkable difference was found from llW which P=0. 0004,and it continued to 15W. (2) The result achieved by compression test also showed remarkable difference from 11W,but there were differences between the two methods. Conclusions (1) Indentation test is a valid method to measure the changes of spongy bone's properties. (2)Compared to compression test, indentation test makes the samples purely, and affected by less factors.
