摘　　要：揭示约瑟夫.康拉德著名短篇小说《黑暗的心》中环境的象征意义,分析小说中运用的象征主义的创作手法在深化和丰富小说主题、思想内涵及意蕴方面的重要作用,肯定了该作品在文学史上的地位。Heart of Darkness is a representative work of Conrad.It is honored as one of the most outstanding short stories in the British history of literature.It displays the indulgence and moral crisis in European civilization when losing the restraint of social norm.Symbolic meaning is the central art character in Conrad s novel.The application of symbol enriches the connotation and significance.The symbol in surroundings emphasizes the theme of the novel.
