摘  要:书院是我国封建社会后期一种重要的教育组织形式。作为中国书院的一个缩影,在清末民初南通教育转型的艰难历程中,书院的作用不容忽视。首先,由书院脱胎而来的学校,经民国初年之发展,逐渐成为当地普通教育体系的重要支柱;其次,书院公产为南通新式教育的兴办和发展提供了大量经费;第三,部分新学化书院的肄业生为南通新式教育的创办做出了重要贡献;第四,大批新学化书院的肄业生任教于新式学堂,并从中涌现出一批教育名家,其中不乏在中国近代教育史上占据一席之地者。Academy of classical learning is one of the important institutions of educations of China in feudal society. As one miniature of the academies of classical learning of China, the affection of the academies of classical learning can not be ignored in the changing of the education in Nantong from the last years of Qing Dynasty to the beginning of the Republic of China. Firstly, the schools directly born out of academies classical learning played a vital part in the new-style education systems; secondly, the property of the academies of classical learning provided large funds to the new-style education systems; thirdly, A few of the learners of the reformed academies of classical learning pay great contribution to the establish of the new-style education systems; Lastly, a large number learners of the reformed academies of classical learning took up teaching in new-style schools, and a few of them became well-known educators in the history of the modern education of China.
