摘　　要：现代宽容观念起源于宗教改革时期宽容思想家反对异端迫害,为宗教宽容和良心自由所作的辩护。在不同的历史情境下,宽容的政治原则致力于区分私人领域与公共领域,划定政治强制的界限,为个人在信仰、价值观与生活方式上的自主选择辩护,它所包含的理性有限论、多元论、个人权利观等自由主义价值融入现代民主理念和制度设计,丰富了民主的价值内涵。Modem tolerance originated in defending free conscience and free thought against heresy persecution in the period of Reformation. In different historical circumstance, the political principle of tolerance aims to divide private and public sphere, restrain political power, preserve free choice of belief ,value and pattern of life. The value of liberalism it contains, like limitation of reason, individual right and pluralism, have been absorbed by modem democracy and applied in institutional arrangement, greatly enriching the value of democracy
