摘　　要：英国当代女作家A.S.拜厄特在其创作的第二部"新维多利亚小说"《天使与昆虫》之《尤金尼亚蝴蝶》篇中,以19世纪博物学家阿尔弗莱德.华莱士及生物学家亨利.贝茨在南美洲的探险经历为原型,塑造了一个信奉达尔文主义的青年科学家和探险者威廉.亚当斯的形象,并透过威廉在亚马逊丛林及英国贵族庄园两种截然不同的生活经历和情感体验,揭示出"英国性"以及民族认同等概念的文化政治蕴含及其建构过程中的意识形态导向。本文所要探讨的,正是拜厄特如何以小说的形式对英国性进行重构,从而与后殖民理论展开对话。The debate around the concept of Englishness has aroused ever-increasing critical attention since the 1980s,with the emergence of postcolonial discourse.This paper examines the ways A.S.Byatt(re)constructs Englishness in her 1992 novella Morpho Eugenia,in which she explores the cultural and ideological construction of 19th century Englishness and Nationhood through the depiction of the dual experience of a Darwinian naturalist in an English aristocracy mansion and the Amazon jungle.This paper argues that the binary opposition between self and other,noble and savage,and center and marginal is dissolved in the text through the analogy and comparison between the English mansion,the ants' nest and the Amazon forest.
