摘 要:情态的研究一直是人际意义研究的中心,本文以Halliday的人际元功能分析为基础,探讨不同情态结构在语篇中的出现频率和功能,结合语料库的分析方法,对比分析四类情态结构在学术语篇和报刊社论中的分布。本文旨在说明情态动词具有一定的语类特征,而第二语言学习者仅仅掌握情态结构的意义是远远不够的,合理把握其语类特征有助于情态结构的习得。Research on modality has always been the focus of interpersonal meaning studies. The paper, based on Halliday' s analysis of interpersonal metafunctions, discusses the frequencies and functions of 14 modal expressions across genres. A corpus-based analysis of four types of modality is conducted between English scientific articles and English newspaper editorials, with which Chinese learners' writings are compared. Quantitative studies show that modal expressions are related to certain generic features, thus for second language learners, a mastery of modal meanings is far from enough. In fact, an increasing awareness of generic features will promote the appropriate use of modality.
