摘　　要：本文立足当前中国边疆防御和发展周边国家关系的基础上,反思传统边疆防御思想的利弊,总结近代中国边政特点,提出造成近代中国边疆危机的内在原因是国内民族矛盾与阶级矛盾混杂在一起而致使国家内部分裂。今天,我们依然需要深入全面地分析研究近代中国国防与边疆防御的经验教训,而不是简单地归结为落后。作者认为,中国历来需要一个强大的中央政府以维护多民族国家的统一,国家才能和平发展,这也是我们坚持党的领导和坚持社会主义道路的历史经验。进入新世纪后,边疆防御概念也进入了一个全新时代。在应对当代多重疆域和边疆防御的新挑战时,如何建设强大的国防和构筑坚强的边防,需要我们对国防与边疆防御战略进行新的思考和探索。With reflections on the present China＇s national defense and its development of the relations with the neighboring countries and a historical account of its traditional ideas of national defense and a summary of the features of the borderland administration in early modern China, the paper points out that the internal causes for the borderland crises were the domestic ethnic contradictions and class contradictions which resulted in domestic disintegration. Today, a further and thorough analysis of the experience and lessons of China＇s national defense in early modern China is worthwhile. The paper concludes that China always needs a powerful central government for maintaining the unification of a multi-national country and for a peaceful development, which is also the historical experience for our adherence to CPCs leadership and to the socialist road. The new century requires a new concept of national defense. While facing the new challenges of multi-territory and national defense, the construction of a powerful national and borderland defense with practical strategies requires further reflections and studies.
