摘　　要：中国是一个文明古国,也是一个正在创建现代文明的国家。中国的历史与现实决定了构建社会主义主流文化是中国共产党在新世纪之初,需要面对的一个重大而紧迫的任务。构建中国主流文化是中国社会长治久安的需要,在某种意义上也是人类文明进步的需要。作为一个历史悠久的文明古国,中国传统文化以其独有的特质、基本精神、价值系统以及历史作用,在构建社会主义主流文化过程中将发挥着不可替代的重要作用。China is a civilized ancient country, as well as a country which is developing its own modem mode. It is a vital and urgent task for the Chinese Communist Party to build its mainstream culture at the turn of the new century, based on its history and its era. To build a Chinese mainstream culture is a long - lasting necessity for Chinese government and for the safety of society, and to some extent, it is also the need of the humanism progress. While as a civilized ancient country with long history, the Chi- nese traditional unique characteristics, essential spirit, social value system, and historical influences play an indispensable role in developing its mainstream culture of socialism.
