摘　　要：Pragmatic vagueness is a common phenomenon in verbal communication. Furthermore, it is an important strat- egy widely used in diplomatic language. This thesis explores the pragmatic vagueness by analyzing diplomatic English. Employing pragmatic vagueness in diplomatic language can help a diplomat to gain foremost national interest and win honor for his/her motherland.Pragmatic vagueness is a common phenomenon in verbal communication. Furthermore, it is an important strategy widely used in diplomatic language. This thesis explores the pragmatic vagueness by analyzing diplomatic English. Employing pragmatic vagueness in diplomatic language can help a diplomat to gain foremost national interest and win honor for his/her motherland.
