The entomophthoralean fungus, Pandora delphacis, is an important pathogen infecting delphacids and cicadellids. In the present study, the effect of the photoperiods, ranging from 0 to 24 h light at 3 h intervals, on the growth and sporulation patterns of the fungus was evaluated using liquid and plate cultures. The resulted data showed that the photoperiods affected insignificantly on the amount of the fungal biomass during the liquid culture at 28℃. The fungal masses porduced at long photoperiods sporulated later and less than those produced at dark and short photoperiods during the incubation on agar plates at 24℃ and 12L∶12D. When incubated on agar plates at varying photoperiods, the fungal masses obtained from the liquid culture at dark sporulated least at 12L∶12D and 21L∶3D but with less variation among other photoperiods. During the plate culture, long photoperiods apparently favored the colony growth and sporulation; half dark and half ligh resulted in fast colony growth but less sporulation whereas 9 h and 18 h light led to more sporulation but slower colony growth. The results showed that P. delphacis was easily grown either in liquid culture or on agar plates. Entire darkness was recommended for liquid culture and long photoperiods for plate culture.
