林纾的“中学”观

摘　　要：作为一位维新派作家,林纾多次提到"中学"以及奉"中学"为立国之本的传统中国所存在的种种缺陷,表现出了那个时代先进的中国人可贵的民族自省精神。但是林纾又认为中国儒家文化所揭示的传统伦理道德具有普世价值,因而是不能随意否定的。林纾之所以反复强调这一点,一个非常重要的原因是欧风美雨激荡下出现的某种"世风日下"现象促使他不能听任"中学"的沦落。Lin Shu, a reformist writer of the new cultural movement, stressed ＂Chinese study＂ in several cases, although he recognized the demerits of regarding ＂ Chinese study＂ as the develop- ment foundation of China. He manifested the precious spirit of self-meditation of progressive Chinese of the age. But he argued that the traditional ethic revealed by the Chinese Confucian culture is of generalized value and cannot be negated at will. The reason that he repeatedly emphasized this view- point is that he could not allow the downgrading of the Chinese study under the decaying influence of the western culture.
