摘　　要：美国自然神论思想强调理性,推崇道德,对霍桑的文学创作影响较大。运用自然神论的观点,霍桑在《红字》中肯定了上帝的仁慈和英明,肯定了人类的价值和幸福,用人文主义的思想正视人类的罪孽,指出了人类可以通过对美德的追求来获得救赎,从而摆脱了清教主义的绝望和恐惧。Relying on reason and upholding morality,American deism bears a certain influence on Hawthorn＇s literary creation.In The Scarlet Letter,inspired by deism,Hawthorne affirms that God knows and is merciful,human beings are worthy and should pursue happiness.He faces up to the sin of human beings through the perspective of humanism,putting forward that human beings can achieve salvation through virtue,so as to free all the human beings from the despair and horror of Puritanism.
