Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of Muscle-region alignment needling plus skin acupuncture in treating post-stroke upper limb spasticity. Methods One hundred and fifty patients were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups, 75 cases each. Based on necessary rehabilitation measures, the treatment group received muscle-region alignment needling plus skin acupuncture and the control group, Western drug treatment. The clinical therapeutic effect, symptom score, muscular tension, motor function and activities of daily living were evaluated in the two groups. Results The total efficacy rate were 94.7% in the treatment group and 62.7% in the control group, and there was a statistically significant difference (P〈0.05). After treatment, the symptom score was better in the treatment group than in the control group (P〈0.05). There were statistically significant pre-/post-treatment differences in muscular tension, motor function and activities of daily living in both groups (P〈0.05). The differences were more obvious in the treatment group. Conclusion The effect of muscle-region alignment needling plus skin acupuncture is superior to that of routine medication in treating post-stroke upper limb spasticity.
