Objective To retrospectively analyze the epidemiological features of pediatric pelvic fractures. Methods Between 2003 and 2007,the clinical data of 106 children with pelvic fractures were collected through the picture archiving and communication system(PACKS)and case reports checking system. The patients'gender, age at injury, injured sites and Torode and Zieg injury type were analyzed retrospectively. Results Most patients were between 11 and 15 years old at the time of injury.Males were more than females. The most common pelvic fractures were at the left side and the least were bilateral injuries. The auto-pedestrian accidents were the most conmmon cause for pediatric pelvic fractures. The most conmmon injury was the Torode and Zieg type Ⅲ iniury.Besides pelvic fracture,19 cases complicated with fractures in other parts of the body.Of the patients admitted to this center,44.44% suffered soft tissue iniuries, organ injuries or vascular injuries. Conclusions Auto-pedestrian accidents are the most common cause for the pelvic fractures in children.Early and effective intervention after injury can improve the clinical outcomes of pediatric pelvic fractures complicated with soft tissue.internal organs or vascular injury.Operation should be considered for the patients with severe displaced pediatric pelvic fractures.
