摘　　要：许多语言学家已经对语言中态度意义的表达作了大量的研究。评价理论的出现使得对语篇态度意义的分析有了系统的理论根据,对小说《苔丝》高潮部分从评价理论视角进行了研究,通过分析其态度系统可以揭示小说主人公的性格特点,这说明态度系统在分析小说人物性格方面起着非常重要的作用。对今后外国文学的学习和教学有一定的帮助。A large number of linguists have made a great effort to study attitude in languge. The advent of Appraisal Theory provides a systematic theoretical basis for discourse attitude analysis. This essay studies the climax in Tess of the D’urbervilles from the approach of attitude in Appraisal Theory and attempts to analyze the main characters’ personalities. It proves that Appraisal Theory plays an important role in analyzing characters’ personalities in novle. Appraisal Theory can be helpful for foreign literature learning and teaching.
