清静啸孤鸿 寂寞待知音——大背景下薛凤祚对天文历算的贡献与评价(上)

摘　　要：作为西学东渐时期中西科学文化的交流者和欧洲科学文明的传播者,薛凤祚的学术观点、接受新事物的能力、运用科学理论和方法的态度与方式等,都与时代相关联。薛凤祚师从来华传教士学习欧洲先进的天文学知识和历算方法,囿于来华传教士的学术观点和宗教立场,在信息来源受限的情况下,他是那个时代接受并理解欧洲天文学和历算知识最积极、最深刻、最彻底的中国学者。在明末清初科学和社会的现实背景下,就天文知识和历算方法的译介和著述来说,薛凤祚已经做出了时代所允许的最大努力和贡献,因而能做到与欧洲先进的科学和技术保持几乎同步的水准。薛凤祚应该得到历史的积极评价和后代人的尊敬,后人在回首历史人物的功绩时,应当考虑历史大背景下的局限性,应该尊重历史、尊重时代,同时也尊重历史人物,不能对前辈学者有超越时代限制的企求。As a trailblazer in bridging the gap of science and cultures between the West and China,and sower of European knowledge and civilization in a period of Western learning spreading to the East, Xue Fengzuo was related to the corresponding period in such aspects as his viewpoints, ability to absorb new things, attitude and approach to apply scientific theories and so on. He was the most active, profound and radical pioneer in adopting and understanding European astronomical knowledge and calendric calculations despite limitations of the missionaries＇ academic and religious standpoint,coupled with the barriers to information sources. When it comes to his contributions to the knowledge above, he kept the pace with Europe, reaching the limit of the historical background. Thus, he deserves the respect and positive evaluations of later generations.
