Objective To investigate the effects of atorvastatin treatment on levels of serum high sensitivity C- reactive protein (Hs-CRP) and homocysteine (Hcy) in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Methods 78 patients with ACS Were randomly divided into 2 equal groups: atorvastatin group taking atorvastatin orally 10 mg once every evening for 4 weeks in addition to conventional treatment, and control group treated with conventional medicine. Before and 4 weeks after the treatment peripheral blood samples were collected to detect the serum Hs-CRP and Hcy. Results There were not significant differences in the levels of serum Hs-CRP and Hcy between these 2 groups before treatment. Both the serum levels of Hs-CRP and Hcy of the atorvastatin treatment group decreased significantly 4 weeks after the treatment compared with those before treatment (P 〈 0. 01). However, both the serum levels of Hs-CRP and Hcy of the atorvastatin group did not show significant differences 4 weeks after the beginning of conventional treatment. Conclusion Atorvastatin decreases the serum Hs-CRP and I-Icy levels, and is important in the treatment of ACS.
