摘　　要：司徒雷登是20世纪前半叶中美关系史上的代表人物之一,其复杂经历和多重身份需要从不同角度加以审视、研究。司徒雷登的宗教观与其创建燕京大学的历史活动存在密切联系,在民族主义日益兴起的中国,司徒雷登治下的燕京大学在日益走向"中国化"的同时,基督教在燕大仍然起着重要作用,从而呈现出司徒雷登作为教育传教士的另一面相。John Leighton Stuart is one of representatives in the history of Sino-US relations in the first half of the 20th century.We should examine his complicated experiences and multiple identities from different perspectives in our study.There were close connections between John Leighton Stuart＇s religious outlook and his endeavors to establish Yenching University.As the rising of nationalism in China,although the Yenching University gradually turned out into ＇enculturation＇,Christianity still played a critical role in this university,which demonstrated that John Leighton Stuart was also an educational missionary.
