英语连接词的显功能初探

摘　　要：语言学界对连接词的研究不多。本文运用默顿的社会功能理论探讨英语连接词的显功能。就建构功能而言,连接词的相应功能分别体现在短语、句子和语篇三个层级上。至于语义功能,则可以从常规、感叹和修辞三个维度予以考察,后两者构成连接词的非常规语义功能。研究表明,英语连接词不仅是话语建构的重要资源,而且是实现说话人交际目的的重要手段。There have not been many studies on English connectives in the field of linguistics.This paper aims at studying the manifest function of English connectives based on Merton＇s social function theory.As far as discursive construction function is concerned,the functions of English connectives are reflected at three levels,namely,phrase,sentence and discourse.Regarding semantic function of English connectives,they can be studied from regular,exclamatory and rhetoric aspects.The latter two establish irregular semantic functions of English connectives.The studies demonstrate that English connectives serve not only as a significant source of discursive construction,but also as an important means of achieving speaker＇s communication purpose.
