摘　　要：美国19世纪中后期开始的工业化，不但给当时本国的自然生态环境带来了严重的破坏，还对当时城乡人们的心灵造成了巨大的冲击。裘威特在《一只白苍鹭》中，通过刻画经历不同生活环境的人物形象，探讨了不同心灵支配下的人们各自不同的行为表现。这种探讨对当前我国在工业立国、全面建设和谐小康社会过程中出现的一些不端行为和不良现象也有着深刻的警示作用。In the mid--late stage of 19th century, America began the process of industrialization, which did great harm not only to the national ecological environment but also to the soul of people, who were living in both town and the country. Jewett discussed the different behaviours of different kinds of people, some of whom were kind and helpful to others, and some harmful, created in A White Heron, one of her best and most anthologized short stories. That discussion is worthwhile for those to be vigilant who tend to behave improperly in contemporary China, which has already been in the process of industrialization for the overall construction of middle--class family society.
