Objective:To investigate the promoting mechanism of Fu Yuan Zai Sheng decoction (FYZSD) on regeneration and repairation of the injured peripheral nerves. Methods:Peripheral nerve injury models were set up by crushing the right sciatic nerves in 60 model Wistar rats, and the rats were randomly divided into experimental group (FYZSD),methylcobalamin and vitamin B1 group, and control group (normal saline). Then sciatic nerve functional index (SFI),electrophysciological indexes, muscle and histomorphological indexes were tested. Results:The recovery rate of SFI was statistically significantly higher in the experimental group than in the other two groups at the fourth week. For electrophysciological indexes, nerve conduction velocity and amplitude of compound muscle evoked potential recovery rate in the experimental group were significantly increased as compared with the other two groups. For muscle and histomorphological indexes, the wet weight of triceps muscle of calf, muscle cell cross-sectional area and myelinated nerve axon count recovery rate in the experimental group were significantly increased as compared with the other two groups. Conclusion:FYZSD can promote rat peripheral nerve injury repair and regeneration, and functional recovery in the early stage.
