Objective To explore the effects of music therapy in improving the fatigue and anxiety in patient with artificial heart pacemaker. Methods Sixty patients with artificial heart pacemaker in the department of cardiology from November 2008 to March 2009 were followed up and then equally randomized into the control treated with health education and routine psychological support and the observational group(n=30) with music therapy based on health education and routine psychological support. The anxiety and fatigue conditions in the two groups were compared with self-rating anxiety scale(SAS) and brief inventory(BFI).Results After music therapy intervention, the scores of SAS and BFI were significantly lower in the observational group than those in the control group(P〈0.01).Conclusion Music therapy can help reduce the sense of anxiety and fatigue in the patients with artificial heart pacemaker installed.
