摘 要:目的阐释晚清概率论译著《决疑数学》中的保险与年金计算的内容与方法,为研究晚清数学史与保险史提供文献支持。方法原始文献分析与解读。结果《决疑数学》引进了西方保险计算的三个基本问题,利用概率知识研究了人寿保险与年金计算的若干具体问题,提供了公式和证明。结论《决疑数学》虽为一部概率论专著,但是它在中国历史上最早系统阐述了保险与年金计算问题,从数学上为中国近代保险业发展提供了理论支撑,在中国数学史和保险史上都具有重要意义。Aim To provide some solid evidence for the studies of the history of mathematics and the history of insurance in China in the late 19th century by examining and explaining the contents and the method for computations of insurance and annuity which appeared in Jue-yi Shu-xue(决疑数学,Mathematical Probability),a probability treatise translated by John Fryer(傅兰雅,1839—1928) and Hua Hengfang(华蘅芳,1833—1902)from English into Chinese in 1880.Methods By studying and analyzing original text.Results Not only are three essence problems of insurance computation discussed in detail,but also a series of mathematical formulae for the computations of life insurances and annuities are derived by means of knowledge of mathematical probability in the work Jue-yi Shu-xue.Conclusion Although it is a mathematical treatise of probability,the Jue-yi Shu-xue introduces the theory and computations of insurance and annuity systematically for the first time in China,which provides mathematical support for the development of the insurance enterprises in China.It is very significant in histories of both insurance and mathematics in China.
