OBJECTIVE To observe the effects of repeated adeministration of sodium oxybate (SO) on body weight, auto- nomic activities, learning and memory in young mice. METHODSS Eighty Kuming young mice were randomly divided into 4 groups of 20 animals each and treated with normal saline 10 mL·kg-1 , SO 25 mgokg1 , SO50 mgokg-1 and SO100 mg-kg-1 ip for NS, SO25 ,SO50, and SO100 groups respectively. The drug was given once a day from dl to d5. Then the body weight, fre- quency of autonomic activity, length of latency period and the numbers of error time in step-dowm test and step-through test were noticed. RESULTS As compared with group NS, SO100 group decreasaed body weight (P〈0. 05), SO50 and SO100 groups reduced the numbers of autonomic activity (P〈0. 01 ), but the length of latency and the numbers of error time did not have sta- tistical significance. CONCLUSION These data demonstrateld that repeated ip of SO did cause significant differences in body weight, autonomic activity, but not influence on the length of latency or the numbers of error time.
