摘　　要：文章阐述了历史文化名城是具有独特历史文化属性的复合生态系统，对它的保护离不开它自身的发展，可持续发展模式是它必由的发展之路。作者提出用生态学方法进行历史文化名城的城市设计，将有助于实现它的保护与发展。The article has expounded that the historical cultural cities are the compound ecological system with unique historical cultural attribute. Protection them can't do without their development. Sustainable development is the only way. The author advances that urban design by means of ecology will contribute to their portection and development
