摘　　要：美国女性主义文学经典《觉醒》蕴含浓厚的存在主义色彩。萨特的"存在先于本质"、自由选择与承担责任等哲学理论,诠释了主人公爱德娜自我选择、自我设计、自我创造,实现其"自为"本质的探求历程,并洞见了她以结束生命来超越自我,获得精神完美这一觉醒行为的深邃内蕴。Although The Awakening is a feminist canon in American literature,it is imbued with existentialist elements.Highlighting the heroine＇s self-decision,self-design and self-creation in her search for self-transcendence,Sartre＇s theories,including ＂existence precedes essence＂,free choice and responsibility,illuminate the connotative significance of the heroine＇s suicide ─discarding her physical form to sublime her spiritual essence.
