As the fruits of spreading of aestheticism and decadence in the literary arena during the period of the May 4th Movement, Fruit of Gingkgo Tree and Perdition reflected their quite different artistic interest and life pursuit through the same plot of story about suicide. In the plot, Fruit of Gingkgo Tree was obviously influenced by Walter Pater's "momentism" which pays attention to spirit spice, while Perdition selected "decadent" revolution through emphasizing on "external oppression" and "bitterness". All these two focuses revealed two different outlooks on art and life among the intellectuals in the 1920s.
