[Objective] To investigate the relationship between social support and Alzheimer's disease (AD) among the elderly in community of Guiyang. [ Results] After adjusting for age and education, it was showed that the lowest risk of AD was existed in the elderly living with their partners and their children (OR=0.14, 95%CI: 0.03-0.67), and then the widow hving with their children, and with their partners (OR= 0.30, 95%CI: 0.12-0.79; 0R=0.35. 95%CI: 0.14-0.85). Respect perceived from the family members and having children might have protective effects on AD (OR=0.40, 95%CI: 0.17-0.95; 0R=0.17, 95% CI: 0.03-0.89). The elderly who hved alone over 2 times per week showed a higher risk for AD (0R=2.37, 95%CI=1.10-5.09). [Conclusion] Social support plays an important role in the development of AD.
