摘　　要："思想独立,学术自由",是大学理想、信念和价值准则的根本体现,是大学的办学灵魂。它彰显的是大学的文化特色和传统,蕴含着深邃的办学内涵。缺失"思想独立,学术自由"精神的大学,不可能培养出优秀的人才,更不可能成为世界一流的大学。客观地审视中国大学的现实,认为创建"思想独立,学术自由"之精神,对于中国大学的未来与发展具有重要的理论价值和实现意义。The principle of independence of mind and intellectual freedom, which embodies the ideals, beliefs and values regarding a university education, is the soul of university management. It manifests the features and traditions of the university culture and is an expression of a profound philosophy of university management. A university that does not encourage independence of mind and intellectual freedom cannot produce great talents and has no hope of becoming a first-class university of international prestige. An examination of the realities facing China’s existing universities indicates that the principle of independence of mind and intellectual freedom has important implications for future development of China’s universities.
