Use of costume in the enhancement of characterization in the film Afonja

摘　　要：This paper examines the use of costume in the enhancement of characterization using the film Afonja as the case study. To ascertain the effectiveness of costume in characterization of the film Afonja, the content is analyzed through closed watching of the film. This is backed up with a review of the symbiotic relationship of characterization, costuming and storyline of the film. Based on the close observation and functions assigned costume in stage and screen productions by theatre scholars, the paper concludes that, characterization in the film is enhanced with costume in terms of assistance in behavioral traits of characters, identification of social status and facilitation of movement.
