摘　　要：美国西部故事鼻祖布勒特.哈特的小说《扑克滩的弃儿》第一次把美国西部先民的艰苦生活和精神风貌写进文学作品中,为后来形成独立的美国民族文学起了潜移默化的作用,也有力地促进了现实主义文学的发展。运用新历史主义文学批评方法,从文学与历史、文学与文化、文学与权力政治的视角对作品进行探讨,可以更深入、客观地认识小说。As the father of American local color literature and founder of stories of the American West,Bret Harte,expresses ancestors＇ hard life and the spirit of the American West in his work,The Outcasts of Poker Flat,for the first time.The novel not only subtly influences the formation of American independent national literature,but also effectively promotes the development of realistic literature.This paper attempts to employ New Historicism to examine the work by taking consideration of relations between literature and history,literature and culture,and literature and power politics,which yields revealing and objective insights into a novel.
