摘　　要：John Updike is a copious writer having a great influence on contemporary American literary history, whose artistic vision is mainly focused on the daily life of American middle class and their living conditions. The paper discusses the theme of religion in Updike＇s works from the perspectives of religion and science. It also analyzes the diversification of religion and summarizes the relationship between religion and the worldly life in America in the 20th century.约翰．厄普代克是美国当代一位多产的着名作家，他的作品主要围绕中产阶级日常生活展开。本文将围绕与美国民众密切相关的宗教信仰问题，从宗教与科学的对峙和并存以及宗教多元化的角度，探讨厄普代克在过去一个世纪裹对宗教主题的处理，并总结相关作品中展现的20世纪美国社会世俗生活与宗教之间的关系。
