摘　　要：《美国牧歌》描述了一个普通美国犹太家族三代人美国梦的追寻及幻灭的故事。不同的历史背景赋予他们不同的美国梦内涵,同样又是历史毁灭了他们的梦想。因此,考察小说中利沃夫家族三代在不同的历史变迁中各自美国梦的演进、主题的变奏,以及在此基础上探究历史之于犹太族裔美国梦的内在悖论性,对考察小说悲剧的历史文化根源有着重要意义。American Pastoral tells about an ordinary American Jewish family＇s pursuit and disillusion of American dream for three generations.Different historical backgrounds bear different connotations of American dream;and it is also the history that destroys their dreams.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the historical and cultural source for the tragedy,by exploring the evolution and the theme variation of American dreams held by the three generations in the Levov＇s and interpret the inner paradox of American dream held by American-Jewish.
