摘　　要："义理"是日本社会一种传统的道德观念,是一种名誉感,一笔人情债。美国后现代派作家托马斯.品钦在作品《葡萄园》中对"义理"的创造性使用是品钦在西方信仰危机时刻探索从东方文明重建精神家园的尝试之一。义理在小说中如同一根链条,不仅在小说涉及的两个不同时代背景、小说的情节结构中起到链接的作用,也是小说濒临瓦解人际关系的纽带,其意义非比寻常。Giri is a traditional culture in Japan,and it refers to a sense of reputation and also a kind of obligation.The creative use of Giri in Vineland written by American postmodern writer Thomas Pynchon proves that Giri is one of the attempts for Pynchon to rebuild the spiritual homeland from the oriental civilization during the period of religion crisis in the western society.Giri is like a chain in the novel,not only connecting the times,linking the structure and plots,but also being the bond between the people＇s relationships which are on the verge of collapse and are of extraordinary significance.
