摘　　要：谭恩美的《喜福会》没有一味褒奖中国传统文化,对旧中国妇女的悲惨境遇并不隐讳,因此常常被批评为"东方主义"的产物。然而勇敢地直面创伤记忆正是谭恩美写作的主要目的。小说正视了由于民族的苦难历史以及家庭文化中的毒性教条,华裔美国家庭所承载与重复的来自上一代的创伤。对个体价值的漠视、对自我的压抑、肉体与精神虐待、沉重的负罪感、强迫性控制欲等不仅伤害了小说中的母亲一代,也同样影响了女儿一代的幸福。小说的个体叙事则为这样的创伤记忆寻找了医治的可能性。Amy Tan＇s The Joy Luck Club seeks neither to flaunt traditional Chinese culture nor to gloss over the suffering of Chinese women in the past.It is hence regarded by some critics as a product of Orientalism.However,the novel confronts boldly the trauma of the Chinese American families inherited from both the suffering of the nation and the toxic rules in the Chinese family culture.Neglect of the individual,repression of the self,physical and emotional abuse,shame and guilt and compulsory control not only distress the older generation but hinder the happiness of the younger generation as well.It is the novel＇s personal narrative which provides the hope for healing such traumas.
