摘　　要：在音质上,词首前化元音后短元音i消失或央化;在功能上,词首前元音的替换会引起词义变化,但后续短元音i及其变体的替换,一般不会引起语义变化,说明词首前元音和后续短元音i(及其变体)的功能并不相同;从元音格局的演变趋势看,ε、符合现代蒙古语前后元音对立体系的形成。因此,无论从音质、功能,还是从元音体系内部音素之间的关系看,将ε、看作独立音位都是合适的。Acoustically,the quality of follow-up short vowel i is disappeared or centralized after word-initial fronting vowel;Functionally,the replacement of the word-initial fronting vowel will cause semantic changes to the word,while the replace of follow-up short vowel i does not,indicating that the function of the word-initial fronting vowel and follow-up short vowel i（and its variants） is different;phonologically,the formation of ε, are consistent with the formation of modern Mongolian vowel opposition system between front and back.Therefore,from the quality,function,or from the relations of vowels within system,it is quiet appropriate that the ε, be seen as the independent phonemes.
