Hair styles and accessories are important parts of the research of clothing. This paper classifies women's hair style into four types as 'faji'(发髻),'shufa'(束发),'bianfa'(编发) and 'jianfa'(剪发) in the Eastern Zhou dynasty.Correspondingly, accessories on hair include three major types: 'faji'(hairpin),'fagu'(band) and 'jiafa'(wig). The author concludes that there are significant regional variations in hairstyles which reflect the dichotomy between two hairstyle systems: 'faji'(发髻) and 'beifa'(被发) systems during the Eastern Zhou dynasty.Besides, only in the Central Plain area did hairstyles show women social status;whereas this pattern is not very distinct in other areas.Due to the close relationship between hairstyle and its accessories, the distribution of accessories also indirectly reflect regional variations of hair styles.
