The effects of amino acid chelated trace element instead of inorganic trace element in the broiler diet on growth performance, metabolic rate of dietary nutrients and content of trace elements in feces were studied. Group I was fed with basal diet as the con- trol group. Fe, Cu, Mn, Zn in the diet were offered respectively by ferrous sulfate, copper sulfate, manganese sulfate and zinc oxide. The adding levels were respectively Fe 100 mg/kg, Cu 20 mg/kg, Mn 120 mg/kg and Zn 120 mg/kg. Group Ⅱ, Ⅲ,Ⅳ and Ⅴ used 12.5 %, 25.0%, 37.5 % and 50.0% of methionine chelated trace elements of iron, copper, manganese, zinc respectively instead of the corresponding inorganic trace elements of 25%, 50 %, 75 %and 100% in the basal diet. The 63-day test showed that: compared with the control group, using different levels of methionine chelated trace elements (iron, copper, zinc and manganeseto) instead of the cor- responding salts in the diet can improve, to a certain extent, the broilers" growth performance, nutrient utilization and farming efficiency and reduce fecal excretion of trace elements. The optimum formula was using 37.5 % methionine chelated trace element instead of 75 % of the corresponding inorganic trace elements in the diet.
