Objective To study the relationship between the polymorphisms of CYP2E1 gene and the susceptibility to antituberculosis drug-induced liver injury. Methods A meta-analysis was performed to estimate the relationship between the polymorphisms of cytochrome 2E1(CYP2E1) gene and the susceptibility to antituberculosis drug-induced liver injury(ATLI) based on relevant epidemiological papers published domestically and abroad.Random effect model or fixed effect model analysis was used to calculate the pooled odds ratio(OR).Publication bias was evaluated by fail-safe number(Nfs). Results A total of 194 cases and 639 controls from 5 studies were included. The pooled OR with 95% confidence interval(CI) of ATLI risk associated with CYP2E1 homozygous wild genotype(c1/c1) was 1.86(95%CI:0.95-3.66).After excluding the results of a survey among children, the pooled OR was 2.22(95%CI=1.51-3.26).Conclusion The results do not support the association between the polymorphisms of CYP2E1 gene and the susceptibility to antituberculosis drug-induced liver injury, but the adult patients carring CYP2E1 c1/c1 genotype might be associated with the increased risk of ATLI.
