摘　　要：It is a well known principle in criminal justice that punishment must fit the crime. It must be prompt and certain, and its duration must reflect only the gravity of the offense and the social harm that the crime has caused. This is hardly the case of the trokosi penal system in Ghana. Trokosi, literally ＂wife of the gods＂ in the local Ewe language, is a traditional religious penal system among the Ewe ethnic group of Ghana.
